Hallway Closet Turned Mudroom

I dreamed a dream, and that is owning our own home. Now that hubby and I own our home, my dream is to have a million buck's look on a dime's budget. But having orphans in our home definitely won't give us a million bucks' look. Yes, indeed, last year, we had many orphans in our home. Orphans because our jackets, backpacks, shoes, and purses didn't have a home to call their own.

Hubby and I discussed that these items should not be dumped anywhere from the couch, to the coffee table, nor to the glider (yep, I'm just keeping it real, my friends). The solution we came up? We turned our hallway closet into a mudroom, so friends, I'm presenting to you our latest accomplishment!

Photobucket

Here's a brief history of what we did. Our "before" was a sordid sight, isn't it? So We took out everything and in order for us to trim the contents, we did 3 pile categories - keepers, donation, trash. The purging felt so good, my friends - whew! Afterwards, we took out whatever we inherited from the previous owners up to the point where hubby was able to take out the old carpets (see #4).

We've earned enough skills from previous flooring projects so spreading the underlayment was just a breeze and installing the planks of laminates was done in a jiffy.

Photobucket

I am currently liking the warm and inviting look of the floor and it makes me smile whenever I see it :)

Photobucket

My share in this project was to patch all holes, clean the walls with bleach and water, paint the walls, and then paint the trims. I ended up painting everything white just to make sure it will blend with whatever color we'll end up with when we repaint our living room at a later time. Our nifty closet door also got a crisp white paint :)

Hubby bought these hook rails from Target and they're doing a great job holding our jackets and purses.

Photobucket

These are 3 stacked up shoe racks and they're serving a great purpose of housing our shoes, slippers, and backpacks on top of the rack.

Photobucket

Now we can all breathe easier and feel more relaxed knowing that these have their own place to stay in.

Pictorial session is not complete without Princess Two's participation so she thought it's cute to show her riding her horsie.

Oh, how she loves her pictures taken. Til next time, my friends. Let me enjoy a moment of some organization here in my dream that just came true :)
