Creative Bloggers' Party & Hop 01.15.12

I finally found a happy medium where I can recognize an excellent effort through your creative projects and something that's manageable with my hectic schedule. I found that one featured project at a time per day is more doable than one whole post consisting of multiple projects being featured. As far as my blogging goal is concerned about featuring projects, I'm happy to report that so far, so good. I've been featuring great posts in the Creative DIYers Club so please take a peek and I'm sure you'll find an inspiration or two.

Onto another topic, my friends. Last Monday, I took Princess One to the cardiologist. I know, it sounds so big and ominous - CARDIOLOGIST. This appointment has been looming over my head since last year after her physical exam with her pedia and it felt like an axe that was about to fall and slice me in half because of "heart murmur." That was November so I was trying my darnest best to get her an appointment at the Children's Hospital in Orange County (CHOC) and I got one last December 27th. Well, of course doctors have to go on vacations, too, or probably, as I was told, a medical emergency that he has to attend to, so our appointment was cancelled last December 23rd and the earliest that she can be seen was supposed to be January 10, 2012. Well, I didn't sit there and wait to be scheduled for January 10th - it's my kid so I had to do something! I wanted a schedule sooner than January 10th so I would know what's really going on. Since our insurance is with Kaiser, I scheduled her for a cardiologist visit and we got one on the 9th. I'm just so thankful that our insurance has the flexibility to choose whichever doctor to go to and not be stuck with just one option. Going back to the cardiologist visit on the 9th, the nurse did an EKG (and how funny that it brought back scary memories when she was just born and the nurse had to poke her ankle to get blood samples because of jaundice) after which the heart doctor came in to give his diagnosis. My husband's parents had cardiac problems and my greatest worry is she might have inherited it, too. Here's the doctor's explanation: "8 out of 10 kids have heart murmur and from those 8, only 1 turns out to have a hole in her/his heart. EKG's result is normal, her heart sounds normal, she will just outgrow it." Then I sighed a sigh of relief. You know what relaxing thing I did upon hearing the good news? I started wading through 300+ emails and responded to the ones that needed responses :) I finished them all last night - Woohoo! I felt so good, my friends! Life is indeed beautiful.

Blog Tip
It's the worst bloggers' nightmare so before it happens to you, you need to back up your blog. Donna from Funky Junk details how.

Favorite Blog
You clicked, inlinkz tallied. The readers' favorite blog post this past week, being the most viewed post, is Lindsay from Southern Lovely's framed mirror. You should check the "before" and how they transformed it to the stunning "after".

Our Party
To the main course of this post.
For those of you joining us for the first time, we only have 2 easy, simple rules:

1) Link up your creative post - can be a DIY project, decor, photography, crafts, recipes, poem, thrift finds, link party, or that informative syndicated post that can make us laugh, or cry - in short, whatever you're proud of! And if you like to link more creative posts, go for it! We'd love to see them :) (No links to businesses or giveaways. We have another party for these exclusively every Tuesday called Market Your Biz & Giveaways at 5 pm, PST.)

2) Follow as many blogs as you desire, preferably starting first with the one who linked before you and after you, before branching out, and let them know by leaving a comment. (Following me will be very much appreciated, and I definitely follow back. Just let me know you're following.)

Displaying the party button on your blog, while optional, is very much appreciated :) It will help you remember to come back and link up to the the happiest blog party on the block (ahem!). It will also help others find their way to the party which we all love because the more the merrier :)

Link opens up every Sunday at 5:00 pm, PST and ends Friday at 11:59 pm.

Friends, go ahead and get to know each :) One followed blogger is one gained friend. And please, don't forget to join my Market Your Biz and Giveaways blog party every Tuesday at 5 pm, PST. It's your chance for free promotion of your family-friendly business and giveaways.

Now, let's party like no other!

Burning question:What's the best blog tip ever that you have heard recently? For me, it's backing up my blog. How about you?

I'm SO glad your daughter is okay! That is frightening...even the smallest thing with your children is scary, but to imagine a CARDIOLOGIST scares the socks off of me!
    God is good, friend!
PS off to back up my blog, it's due. :)

I've linked, but it's not showing, I keep having this problem about a week now.

Thanks for the P invite, it finally worked when I set up a Twitter, it wouldn't work through FB, after 4+ days of trying!

  5. It's not a new tip, but one I'll be working on to improve my blog...

"Blog often!" I've got a personal goal to blog at least every two days.

For the first 7 months of my blog (started just after 1st week of June this past year) I posted 58 entries, averaging just about 8 posts a month. I'd like to double that if not more.

Thanks for hosting another great party :)

  7. Thanks for hosting. Glad to hear your daughter is okay. My brother had a heart murmur and went on to lead a long and productive life (he's still living and is 62). The murmur kept him from being drafted during the Vietnam War.

  25. I come from a long line of family with heart problems, so I can understand your anxiety. I also know all about these heart murmurs and how common they are. My sister had one and has outgrown it, and a few of her children have it, too.

I'm so glad to hear that your daughter is okay. There is nothing scarier than hearing your child may be dangerously ill. I've had a scare or two in my time as a mother, too.

I enjoy your linky parties and your blog. Thanks so much!

  29. Clever idea to call "comments" "helpful ideas." So positive. Thanks for the back-up tip and for hosting the party.
