Hi, there! It's me, SJ. This is my attempt to show my portrait for Darcy's P52 blog party. Well, I can't just show myself posing in front of a camera so I thought, why not share how I stained and stenciled our old bookcase?
My husband is known to keep things like forever. This bookcase is one among the things that he has been keeping before we got married. It was so old and faded. Consider these as the before pictures.
I stained it using Minwax Wood Finish.
I was about to apply polyurethane when I decided that since it looked too boring, I can experiment by stenciling it.
Next came the process of applying polyurethane.
The stenciled design really stands out on the dark stain and (in a sing-song way) I LOVE IT!
Then hubby started sneezing. His allergies kicked in.
We had to carry this back in the garage. My excitement to put our books back in the bookcase and some other trinkets was shortlived :(
I have a feeling that we might have a visit to Ikea soon to get us some Expedit shelves. Oh well, some projects succeed, some don't. That's the nature of the DIY niche.
How about you? Any projects that you thought will succeed but had to be shelved?

You did such a lovely job on the shelves. It's too bad that your husband's allergies acted up. Perhaps there is a use for the shelves in the garage. Great idea for a self-portrait!
ReplyDeleteThat looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteAlways multitasking!!! Great job on the shelves AND the self portrait.
ReplyDeleteLook at you go. Great self portrait and really nice DIY. You did a great job on the bookcase. I really like the stencils. Maybe when the poly cures it won't make your husband sneeze? Or IKEA is always fun.
ReplyDeleteLove the bookcase. Great way to combine a project and a self-portrait.
ReplyDeleteSJ; Great bookcase!!! I especially like the stencil work. Heather

I love the contrast SJ. Great posing too, my dear. Awww, too bad hubby had to start sneezing.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can put this in a room that you don't want him to come into . . . ever. So sad that he's allergic :( I suppose its wrong to medicate someone you love just so you can display your latest DIY project.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining our party. Your bookcase looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteblessings,
